Ask a Local

Is Las Vegas a good place to live?

For many people, yes. The Las Vegas Valley offers a wide range of communities, from master-planned neighborhoods like Summerlin and Henderson to newer northwest areas like Skye Canyon, plus no state income tax in Nevada and quick access to outdoor recreation at Red Rock Canyon, Mount Charleston, and Lake Mead. The best fit depends on your lifestyle, budget, and commute, which is why our community guides compare each area side by side.

What are the best neighborhoods in Las Vegas?

It depends on what you want. Summerlin is a master-planned community along Red Rock Canyon on the west side. Henderson is a separate city on the southeast side known for master-planned communities like Green Valley Ranch, Anthem, Inspirada, and Cadence. Skye Canyon and Centennial Hills offer newer homes and mountain views in the northwest, while Enterprise and Southern Highlands are popular in the southwest for newer construction close to the Strip.

Does Nevada have a state income tax?

No. Nevada does not have a state personal income tax, which is one reason many people, retirees, and military families choose to relocate to Las Vegas.

Is Henderson part of Las Vegas?

No. Henderson is its own incorporated city, established in 1953, on the southeast side of the Las Vegas Valley, about 15 to 25 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. It has its own police department, fire department, and city council.

Where is Enterprise, NV?

Enterprise is an unincorporated town in southwest Clark County, within the Las Vegas Valley. It covers ZIP codes 89139, 89141, 89178, and 89179, includes communities like Mountain's Edge and Southern Highlands, and sits roughly 10 to 15 miles southwest of the Las Vegas Strip.

Where is Centennial Hills in Las Vegas?

Centennial Hills is in the northwest part of the Las Vegas Valley near US-95 and the 215 Beltway. It is known for its suburban feel, mountain views, and parks like Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs.

How far is Summerlin from the Las Vegas Strip?

Summerlin is about 10 to 15 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, or roughly 15 to 25 minutes via Summerlin Parkway or the 215 Beltway in light traffic, depending on the village.

Where should military families live near Nellis Air Force Base?

Many Nellis families choose North Las Vegas, including Aliante and Eldorado, or Sunrise Manor, which are typically 10 to 20 minutes from the base. Personnel at Creech Air Force Base often choose Centennial Hills, Skye Canyon, or Providence along US-95, about 35 to 45 minutes away.
